Exploring food, hospitality and emotional storytelling through atmosphere, memory & gathering.

Food writer, recipe developer, cook, host & brand curator

Snapshot

Hello, I'm Ranie.

I was born and raised in Malaysia and now call London home, but much of who I am began in my grandmother's kitchen.

I grew up watching her cook without recipes, measuring by instinct and memory rather than spoons or scales. Looking back, I realise she was teaching me something far greater than how to cook. She was teaching me about care, generosity and the quiet rituals that bring people together.

Years later, after moving across the world, I found myself searching for those memories again. What began as a way of preserving her recipes and memories became The Malay Cook, a project rooted in heritage, belonging and the stories we carry with us.

Since then, the journey has taken many forms. I was a finalist for the Yan-Kit So Award for Food Writers on Asia, published a cookbook, hosted supper clubs, collaborated with brands, developed recipes and experiences centred around food, hospitality, travel and storytelling.

Alongside The Malay Cook, I have worked with hotels, restaurants and brands to shape their identity, positioning and presence by building brand worlds that connect storytelling, guest experience and emotional connection.

While food remains at the heart of my work, I'm increasingly interested in what sits around it: the table, the atmosphere, the conversation, the feeling people take away long after the meal has ended.

Today, my work spans writing, hosting and brand curation, exploring how stories, experiences and emotional connection shape the way we remember people, places and ideas.

Because whether it's a recipe, a gathering, a hotel, a restaurant, a brand or a personal story, I'm interested in the same thing:

How do we create something that stays with people?

Because the details may fade, but the feeling remains.
